April 9 at 11 AM and 6:00 PM

Based on a prophecy by Jesus Christ, you will learn which signs apply to the end and which are mere speculation. You will see how close we really are to the end, but have a clear picture of hope at a time of great confusion

Burn the chariots

To achieve complete victory over our enemy we need to burn it to ashes. Partial victory will never free us from the power of sin. The Lord commanded Joshua to burn all the expensive chariots of the enemy. God knew the danger was that the Israelites would put their confidence in horses or chariots instead of Him. The psalmist declares, (20:7) “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.”

“In Pilgrim Progress John Bunyan describes Christian’s approach to the Palace Beautiful where he hoped to get lodging. He began to walk down a very narrow passage leading to the porter’s lodge. Then he saw two lions in the way. Bunyan adds parenthetically; ‘The Lions were chained but he saw not the chains.” That is frequently the case – we fear because we don’t see the chains.”

“The truth is that Christ sits at the right hand of the Father far above all the rule and authority and dominion and according to Ephesians 1:20-22 he has every thing under his feet. That means that ever power that would harm us or seek to destroy us is chained. But sometimes we don’t see the chains.” [Dale Ralph Davis]

This Sabbath morning, March 26, I invite you to come to Lakeview church to study with me Joshua ch 11. God gives us assurance that if we show living faith He will give us complete victory over our enemies.

Please, remember to check the Prayers needed and the Announcements page.

See you this Sabbath.

Adventists in Japan

Friends,

Latest news a few minutes ago from Dean Horinouchi, pastor of the Mission Road church, is that all Seventh-day Adventist Church members in Japan have been accounted for. No members have lost their lives, although some have lost homes.

The Adventist church in Sendai, the city hardest hit by the earthquake/tsunami, is inland, so was not damaged by the tsunami. Pastor Horinouchi said he‚s heard it probably will be set up as an evacuation center. There was a little damage to the parsonage, but nothing major.

Morihiro Kohama, associate pastor of the Mission Road church, is scheduled to return to Japan on March 27 after serving here in California for the past five years. He has been assigned to Sendai. Mission Road members plan to send money with him to use in relief work there.

Here are a few links to information about what today‚s Press-Enterprise calls Japan‚s „growing humanitarian, nuclear and economic crisis.‰ I‚m focusing here on church-related websites, assuming that you all have your favorite TV, print and computer news sources.

Also check the ADRA and Mission Road church‚s Facebook pages for information updates.

Here’s a map from the home page of the New York Times that has absolutely fascinated me. You can move the vertical line back and forth to see before-and-after maps that will break your heart: http://tinyurl.com/4pexsqb . Scroll down to the city of Sendai, where Pastor Kohama will be going and see what challenges he and his members will be dealing with.

The first few verses of Psalm 46 have been floating through my mind all weekend as I try to bend my mind around the enormity of what happened on Friday in Japan. What a precious promise this must be to our members there:

“God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear,

Even though the earth be removed,

And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Though its waters roar and be troubled,

Though the mountains shake with its swelling.” (NKJV)

Atlanta Adventist Academy Choir

This Sabbath morning, March 12, Lakeview church worship service will be led by the Atlanta Adventist Academy Choir. We expect a big group of students who will bless us with their uplifting music, testimonies and a message from the Word of God.

The AAA concert chorale ministers through music to schools and churches throughout the Georgia-Cumberland Conference.  Under the direction of Mrs. Gayle Moore, the students develop their artistic and technical vocal skills while being exposed to the best of traditional and contemporary worship and praise music.

The Advent Ringers have received acclaim for their performances at churches, schools, clinics, and other venues throughout the region.  Under the leadership of Mrs. Lettie Bragg, these students develop their musical skills and appreciation.

The Day the Sun Stood Still

On Sabbath morning, March 5, I invite you to study with me a story of the The Day When the Sun Stood Still recorded in Joshua 10. When we are faced with opposition, be it illness, stress, financial troubles or religious persecution,  like Joshua we may cry to the Lord and ask Him to stop the sun and the moon. God intervened and fought for Israel and He gave them the victory that day. God says through the prophet Jeremiah (32:27), “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?”

Unfortunately ”some men have a little god, and they are always in trouble with him. He can’t do any miracles. He can’t take care of the inspiration of the Scriptures and their preservation and transmission to us. … Then there are those who have a great God. He speaks, and it is done. He commands, and it stands fast. He knows how to show himself strong on behalf of those who fear him. You have a great God and he will bless your ministry.” [J M Boice. Joshua: We Will Serve The Lord.]

Let us learn from Joshua how to find a Mighty God, the one who can calm the storm and move the galaxies, give us victories over our enemies of doubts and unnecessary troubles. Join me this Sabbath morning for an exciting Bible study at the Lakeview church.

Please, remember that this is the first Sabbath of the month and everyone is invited to participate in the Fellowship Lunch after the service. Our many visitors always appreciate your delicious ethnic dishes which you so generously contribute to the Sabbath lunch.

See you this Sabbath.

Atlanta Adventist Academy program at Lakeview

On March 12 the Lakeview church will host Atlanta Adventist Academy choir, bells, and drama during the 11 AM worship service. You’ll hear students’ testimonies of how they experienced Jesus at AAA.

We need your help in providing food for the students for March 12. This Sabbath you’ll find a sign-up sheet in the church lobby for those who would be willing to help with the food arrangements.

Great Controversy Book club

A couple of weeks ago the Lakeview midweek prayer meeting switched its format from the video seminar to “The Great Controversy” (GC) book-sharing session.  As Adventists, we have not yet taken full advantage of our spiritual resources.   There is no better time to read E G White books than this time.  This will better prepare and equip our members for the upcoming Evangelistic meetings.  Great Controversy book has 42 chapters; our plan is to  cover a chapter a week for the rest of the year.

Have you joined the club?
